If you are like most people when you think of snacks your mind immediately goes to potato chips, candy and cookies. However, as you most likely know, chips, cookies and candy pack on the pounds and fill your body will unnecessary salt and a whole lot of fat. A much wiser choice to make is to fill your pantry with healthy snack foods such as dried fruit, nuts and seeds.
Even if you are a self-professed chocoholic, you can still indulge in it if you use some common sense. Eaten in moderation chocolate is actually good for you – especially the dark variety. Consider picking up a package or two of dark chocolate almonds. Not only will you satisfy your craving for chocolate but you will also be getting all of the nutritional benefits offered by the almonds, which are great for your heart.
Sunflower seeds are inexpensive, low in calories and loaded with fiber and rich in Vitamin E. Incorporating these seeds into your diet can reduce the risk of colon cancer and help to cut the chances of developing diabetes.
Wasabi peas is another great snack choice. Low in fat, high in fiber and great tasting, these peas come in many varieties and can be coated with spices that will surely tantalize your taste buds.
